How to Find Teaming Partners
You don’t have to be in government contracting long to figure out teaming and subcontracting agreements give you a serious leg up.
For larger businesses, teaming partners can help you meet set-aside requirements and win contracts you couldn’t access otherwise. For smaller businesses, teaming or subcontracting partnerships can open doors to bigger projects, helping you build a strong past performance track record for future bids.
But where do you start? With GovTribe, you have a few options.
1. Chat with GovTribe AI.
The fastest and easiest place to start is AI Insights. Just tell us what kind of vendors you’re looking for (ones with specific set-asides, NAICS codes, agency relationships, etc.), and we’ll instantly point you toward promising matches.
2. See recommended vendors for specific opportunities.
Looking at a specific contract opportunity? Click the Analyze This button to see incumbents and likely bidders. It’s a quick way to spot potential teaming partners who are already in the game.
3. Identify teaming partners by their past performance.
You can also use the Funding page under Reports in the navigation bar to find vendors based on their proven past performance. On this page, you can apply filters and instantly spot companies that have:
- Existing relationships with agencies you’re targeting
- Completed similar work to opportunities you’re pursuing
- Set-asides or certifications required for specific contracts
By analyzing funding history and award trends, you can hone in on vendors who are not only qualified but also already trusted by your target agencies, making them strong candidates for teaming or subcontracting opportunities.
4. Search the vendor database.
GovTribe’s Vendors page is a great place to both discover and research potential partners.
Got a company in mind? Look them up and explore their profile, including past teaming and subcontracting relationships.
Don’t have anyone specific in mind, but have an idea of what you’re looking for? Type it in using your own words (no keywords required), select Semantic Search, and hit enter.
To refine results even more, try adding filters. Once you’ve got the results you’re looking for, you can:
- Click on profiles to research and reach out to vendors
- Click Export Search Results (top right corner) to save your results
- Click Copy to Clipboard (top right) for a link to share with your team
A couple other tricks:
- Similar Vendors: Like what you see? Check the Similar Vendors column on the left side of any vendor’s profile to find others like them.
- Primes & Subs: Curious who a competitor (or any vendor) has worked with in the past? Check out the Primes and Subs tabs on their profile to see those relationships.
5. Customize your vendor profile.
Now flip the perspective: other businesses are searching for teaming partners too.
By claiming and customizing your vendor profile, you make it easier for the right people to find you and see what you want them to see—including things like your:
- Capability statement
- Teaming interests
- Contact info
- Marketing info (tagline, logo, etc.)
And, great news, getting started is easy. All you have to do is:
- Click Vendors under the Participants tab in the navigation bar
- Search for your company and select your profile
- Click Claim Vendor in the top right
- Fill in your information
- Click Confirm
Boom. Your complete profile will now help you stand out from thousands of other vendors and increase your chances of being contacted for teaming and subcontracting opportunities.
6. Network at events.
Finally, don’t underestimate the power of meeting and connecting with teaming partners in person.
Online research is essential, but face-to-face connections are where real partnerships often start. Industry events and networking opportunities give you a chance to meet potential partners and buyers directly.
Check out the events calendar from our parent company, GovExec, for upcoming chances to connect with decision-makers. (Pro tip: use GovTribe to do a little homework on key players before you show up or reach out, and you’ll start conversations on the right foot.)
